Service to Our Country

Our 20-year service in the Marine Corps was truly an honor. Both wonderful and challenging to young newly-weds inexperienced in the world, we embraced it with enthusiasm. We were determined to make it through intact and together. There were times that we thought the grass was greener on the other side and were tempted to get out, but Stephen loved leading and influencing young men and women for good, and we couldn't think of any occupation that offered the fitness, diversity, and opportunity for growth as did the Marines. So we stayed. Below is a capsulized summary of service:
  • Commission January 19, 1971 at Brigham Young University.
  • The Basic School at Quantico, Virginia March - September 1971.
  • Basic Artillery Officer School, Ft. Sill, Oklahoma - October 71-January 72.
