We have completed the first week of our mission at the MTC in Provo, Utah. It has been a very nice but busy week. We've done this before, but each time is a new and invigorating and tiring experience. We've become used to not being driven by timelines, and this has been an adjustment, but a good one. We've made new friends with senior couples. Several of us are doing military relations missions. Each day has been filled with large group meetings and small class instruction. This first week is called "Preach My Gospel" week because everything is pretty focused on that. We've received instruction on getting to know the needs of people, teaching doctrine that meets their needs, and extending to them specific invitations. We've also practiced these principles with each other. The emphasis of inviting people to come to Jesus Christ is central to everything taught here. He is the Way--the only way--for God's children to overcome the effects of physical and spiritual death and to return to the presence of Heavenly Father. It has been an inspiring experience that has helped us focus on becoming more Christ-like in our thoughts, feelings, and actions.
Saturday was a day of rest and recovery. Sunday (today), we attended church meetings at the MTC. Elaine led the music in sacrament meeting and Stephen gave a short doctrinal presentation on giving priesthood blessings for comfort and guidance. This afternoon we had another meeting and then spent time in the new buildings (T3 and T4) viewing the massive stunning murals on gospel principles. The Church certainly does nothing second-rate. Everything is beautiful with nothing spared to make the MTC a university of spiritual learning. Next week, beginning tomorrow, we will receive instruction relative to military relations, finishing up on Friday. We will pack the car and get ready to leave on the weekend, and begin our 2-day drive to Monterey, CA the following Monday. We anticipate arriving in Monterey in the afternoon or evening of Tuesday, 20 February.
